Victorian Opera
This page contains details about last year’s show. Information about Victorian Opera’s programme with Richard Gill this year will be posted here soon.
SEVEN years ago, Victorian Opera was an idea. Six years ago, I appointed Richard Gill as the Founding Music Director of a company which regularly delights, surprises, engages and enthrals audiences.
When the company started there was a clear and compelling vision of creating a new opera company for the State and beyond.
Due to Richard’s work, this vision is now growing and developing on the cornerstones of artistic excellence, access and new Australian work which have become Victorian Opera’s very distinctive place in the market.
This is Richard Gill’s final year leading Victorian Opera. It is an indisputable fact that he has changed the operatic landscape of Australia in a very real and tangible way.
His legacy is an organisation which takes artistic risks, from a strong basis of audience support and ownership. It is also with the hundreds of children and young people who have been inspired by work in music education.
This work will continue through Victorian Opera’s education and audience development work.
Michael Roux – Chairman, Victorian Opera

“In the pit, Richard Gill, directing from one of two harpsichords, conducted Orchestra Victoria in a balanced performance (of Julius Caesar),”

Masterclass
Opera in the Otways masterclasses, will give regional students a unique opportunity to work with Richard Gill.*
High school singers will be invited to work with music director and pre-eminent music educator Richard Gill on a range of musical activities, culminating in an exciting performance opportunity as the chorus in Victorian Opera’s Gala at Cape Otway Lightstation on Saturday, November 26, 2011.
* Unfortunately, due to a lack of numbers, there will be no school choir taking part this year.
